New Orleans, La. - The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development advises motorists that two sections of the existing roadway lighting along I-10 in New Orleans East have been turned off as the first phase of construction has begun to replace the existing lighting systems with new and enhanced lighting systems that will feature LED lights.

The limits of the Morrison Road Interchange lighting project are from Dwyer Road to Mayo Boulevard, which includes high mast lighting in the interchange to reduce the number of light poles along ramps. The Read Boulevard Interchange lighting project limits are from Bundy Road to Wright Road. Completion is estimated for January 2020, weather dependent.

A third lighting project, the Crowder Boulevard Interchange lighting project, is expected to begin later this year that will replace the lighting from Mayo Boulevard to Bundy Road. Upon completion, the I-10 corridor in New Orleans East from Dwyer Road to Wright Road will have all new upgraded lighting on I-10 and its interchanges.

DOTD reminds motorists to use caution while driving and adhere to the following safety tips:

• Turn on your headlights.
• Keep an eye on road markings ahead.
• Drive carefully and avoid distractions.
• Always allow for extra driving time.
• Reduce speeds when visibility is low.
• Make sure there is plenty of room between vehicles.
• Be on the lookout for DOTD crews and their equipment.

All construction activity is weather dependent and may be rescheduled in the event of inclement weather. DOTD appreciates the motoring public’s patience and reminds drivers to please exercise caution when traveling through work zone areas and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment.
