Slidell, La. – Beginning on Jan. 3, 2019, there will be highway closures associated with construction on the U.S. 11 Bridge between Slidell and New Orleans, announces the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development.

This $28.36 million project includes concrete and structural repairs, grid deck replacement, painting, installation of a new fender system, and electrical and mechanical rehabilitation.

During construction, there will be multiple restrictions placed on vehicle and marine vessels while repairing the bridge. A full vehicular closure will occur from Jan. 3, 2019 thru April 18, 2019.

The advised alternate routes are:

• Southbound traffic will be detoured to LA 433 (Old Spanish Trail) to I-10 Westbound to U.S. 11
• Northbound traffic will be detoured to I-10 Eastbound to LA 433 (Old Spanish Trail) to U.S. 11

There will be periodic highway and marine closures throughout the duration of the project. Motorists who frequently travel across U.S. 11 should continue to monitor DOTD’s website for closure information.

The contractor, American Bridge Co., began construction in late August 2018 and is estimated to be completed summer 2020, weather dependent.

All construction activity is weather dependent and may be rescheduled in the event of inclement weather. DOTD appreciates the motoring public’s patience and reminds drivers to please exercise caution when traveling through work zone areas and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment.
