H.005733 – US190 Superstreet

COVINGTON, La. – The Louisiana Department of Transportation recently began a $9.1 million project to perform three miles of access management improvements along U.S. Highway 190. The project will run from just north of Interstate 12 to the Claiborne Hill Overpass and is estimated for completion in early 2019.

The project concept is to incorporate superstreets at 11 intersections
along the corridor. The concept of the superstreet is to eliminate left turn and
through movements from the minor road onto the major roadway. Both of these
movements will be accomplished with a right turn from the minor street and
subsequent U-turn on the major roadway, followed by another right turn for the
through movement; or proceeding straight after making the U-turn to complete the
left turn movement.

Command Construction Industries, LLC is the contractor. Work to be performed includes traffic signals, asphalt paving, drainage and roadway striping. Most work will take place outside of the travel lanes with some lane closures taking place at night.

All construction activity is weather dependent and may be rescheduled in the event of inclement weather. DOTD appreciates the motoring public’s patience and reminds drivers to please exercise caution when traveling through work zone areas and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment. Area residents should exercise caution when driving, walking or biking near an active work zone.
