Baton Rouge – A public meeting scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 18, concerning the proposed maintenance and rehabilitation project along the Kansas City Southern (KCS) railroad in East Baton Rouge Parish has been postponed.

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD), along with the City of Baton Rouge, will be conducting two open house public meetings in an effort to gather more information regarding the railroad project. DOTD announced last month that the public comment period was extended in order to give the Department an opportunity to reconsider plans that were presented at the public meeting on November 6.

On January 11, DOTD Secretary Shawn Wilson and Baton Rouge Mayor Sharon Weston Broome toured the corridors to review the proposed upgrades and closures in order to see the impact it could have on the surrounding communities.

The meeting for Jan. 23 is still scheduled. DOTD will announce a new date for the postponed meeting at a later date.

Oral and written comments on the project can be submitted at the meeting or downloaded from the project’s website and returned via mail or fax (225-242-4500).
