NEW ORLEANS, La. - The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announces that the Judge Seeber (Claiborne Avenue) Bridge is now reopened to vehicular traffic following an incident that occurred earlier today.

At approximately 12:15 p.m., a vehicle drove around DOTD personnel stationed at the bridge to block traffic during a scheduled opening to marine traffic. The driver went onto the curb and shoulder of the bridge approach, and plowed through a gate before plunging into the Industrial Canal. DOTD personnel has been positioned near the bridge gate during marine openings for over a month due to a damaged traffic barrier.

The New Orleans Police Department is handling the investigation.
