BATON ROUGE - Today, the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announced the reopening of the on-ramp from US 61 to Interstate 10 westbound in Ascension Parish.

The on-ramp was closed in October 2015 due to damages to the on-ramp overpass from an over height load. In order to minimize traveler inconvenience, this portion of the interstate was shut down for a weekend in early March as a way to avoid multiple weekend lane closures. The on-ramp was then repaired at a nearby makeshift construction yard. The interstate was closed again in early July so the on-ramp could be put back in place.

Once the ramp was put in pace, it had to be reconnected and concrete poured for the deck, approach slabs and safety barrier.

The project was scheduled to be completed in early September. However, due to complications with the concrete safety barrier not meeting strength requirements, the opening was postponed, resulting in the barrier being taken down, re-poured and re-tested.
