TERREBONNE PARISH, La. – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announces lane closures and a reduction in tonnage for a timber bridge at La. 3011 near its junction with La. 57, in lower Terrebonne Parish. Heavy truck traffic is not allowed on the structure at this time. The bridge remains open to passenger vehicles only.

Currently, the normal 20-35 ton vehicular weight limit has been reduced to a maximum three (3) tons and the southbound lane of the bridge is completely closed, due to a structural failure in that lane. The bridge is operating with alternating south and northbound traffic on the northbound side.

The substructure inspection performed today by an underwater diving team resulted in an initial assessment that the 3-ton limit can be safely accommodated by the structure in its present state. However, the weight limit may be subject to change as the condition of the structure is still being assessed. DOTD is evaluating short and long term solutions for replacing the bridge.

DOTD appreciates the motoring public’s patience and reminds drivers to please exercise caution when traveling through work zone areas and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment. Area residents should exercise caution when driving, walking or biking near the active work zone.
