COVINGTON, La. – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announces an update on the project to widen La. 21 from Bootlegger Road to 11th Avenue in St. Tammany Parish, a $16.8 million capacity improvement project.

Current activities:

  • Crews are working on constructing the median incidental concrete, installing striping at intersections, dressing embankment near the bridge and performing punch list items.
Previous activities:

  • Crews replaced cracked/broken sections of the sidewalk and roadway. The signal contractor installed signals; outside lanes in both directions reopened on ground and bridge, leaving inside lanes for the contractor to complete removal of temporary medians and install permanent ones.
Once the median work is completed, the permanent striping and asphalt mill/overlay tie-ins on each end of the project will take place.

Barring further inclement weather, the estimated completion timeframe is now projected for late summer 2017, which is subject to change pending any additional work requests. DOTD project engineers continue to work with the contractor to maintain steady progress and complete construction as efficiently as possible.

DOTD appreciates your patience and reminds you to please drive with caution through the construction zone and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment.
