DOTD announces Bayou La Loutre Bridge Rehabilitation

Extended lane closures planned
ST. BERNARD PARISH, La. – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development recently began a $5.3 million project to rehabilitate the Bayou La Loutre (Yscloskey) Bridge on La. 46, in St. Bernard Parish. During the project, extended lane and complete closures of the bridge will be required, affecting both marine and vehicular traffic.
On Wed., December 14, La. 46 at the Bayou La Loutre Bridge (Yscloskey Bridge) will be closed from 8:00 p.m. thru 6:00 a.m. Thursday, December 15 while crews perform repairs to the existing bridge deck. During this time, the bridge will be closed to all vehicular traffic and there are no available alternate routes. Area first responders have coordinated plans for service during this closure.
Though the project will mostly consist of single lane closures on the bridge, additional complete closures will be required but will only occur between the hours of 8:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m., Monday through Thursday. There will be no complete closures allowed on weekends (Friday through Sunday). During lane closures, vehicles will be allowed to cross the bridge with assistance from a flagging operator. At various times, the bridge will be closed to marine traffic. Traffic notices will be sent in advance of any closure to allow for proper planning by the motoring public.
The contractor is C.E.C, Inc. Work to be performed includes various repairs and painting of the structure, as well as building a new operator house and machinery room at a higher elevation to prevent damages and down time from future severe weather events. The project began in November 2016 and is estimated for completion in summer 2018.
All construction activity is weather dependent and may be rescheduled in the event of inclement weather. DOTD appreciates the motoring public’s patience and reminds drivers to please exercise caution when traveling through work zone areas and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment.
