DOTD is committed to delivering projects that promote safety, efficiency, and provide multimodal capability. Per the scope of the project to clean and paint the Huey P. Long Bridge, work includes blasting and removing the lead-based paint from the railroad trusses of the structure, not included in the previous widening project completed in 2013 under the TIMED project program due to the lack of funding. The Department remains dedicated to the completion of this important maintenance project.
After monitoring traffic conditions during the peak hours, DOTD has already placed a tow truck designated for motorist assistance at the Huey P. Long Bridge. It is operating during peak hours, 6:00 to 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. Additional traffic control measures will soon begin to assist with the flow of traffic on the bridge as a result of the required lane closures. Beginning Monday, November 28, Causeway Police details will be used to control traffic entering the bridge. The police will allow traffic from U.S. 90 eastbound and the ramp from Seven Oaks Boulevard/Bridge City Avenue to alternate in order eliminate the merging of traffic on the bridge. This will be in effect during morning peak hours beginning at approximately 7:00 a.m.
Also, current traffic control measures in place on the U.S. 90 westbound approach to the bridge will be adjusted to allow the traffic on the ramp from Jefferson Highway to have its own lane when entering the bridge, instead of having the ramp merge into the two through lanes from the Clearview Parkway approach. The adjustment will require that the left lane on the Clearview approach to the bridge be closed. This will help reduce the delays on the ramp entrance.
