LA 21 Widening (Bootlegger to 11th) – State Project No. H.001340

COVINGTON
, La. – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announces an update on the project to widen La. 21 from Bootlegger Road to 11th Avenue in St. Tammany Parish, a $16.8 million capacity improvement project.

Current activities include the following:

• Bridge crew driving piles and pouring caps on the northbound bridge.

• All northbound traffic switched over Friday, Oct. 14, to being travel on the southbound lanes to begin removal of the remaining old roadway.

• All drainage work on the east side of La. 21, from the bridge southwards to Bootlegger Road, has been installed. Crews will soon begin subsurface drainage installation on the east side of the road from the Tchefuncte River northwards towards 12th Avenue.

• The northbound roadway road base is being worked on from Bootlegger Road to the river.

Last month:

• Bridge crews drove piles, tied steel for caps and set girders for the new northbound bridge.

• Drainage crews installed subsurface drainage along the east side of La. 21.

• Center of La. 21 from 8th Avenue to 12th Avenue was paved.

The current completion timeframe is spring 2017, which is subject to change pending weather, change orders and any additional work requests. DOTD project engineers continue to work with the contractor to maintain steady progress and complete construction as efficiently as possible.
