DOTD to co-host regional freight conference in New Orleans
Monday, March 07, 2016 at 3:40:50 PM
NEW ORLEANS, La. - The Gulf Coast is a regional transportation hub, with its access to the Gulf of Mexico and the I-10 Corridor. In the region, freight activity is nearly synonymous with economic activity.

In recognition of this, the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD), in partnership with the Institute for Trade and Transportation Studies, is co-hosting the seventh annual Freight in the Southeast Conference. Other organizations participating in the conference planning committee are the University of New Orleans Transportation Institute, New Orleans Regional Planning Commission, Port of New Orleans, Louisiana Economic Development, Louisiana Planning Council, Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department, Georgia Department of Transportation, the Maritime Administration, Irwin Brown Company, J.W. Allen and Co., Inc., and Triple G Express.

Phil Jones, DOTD Deputy Assistant Secretary for Intermodal Transportation, stated, “The Freight in Southeast Conference is of interest to public and private organizations working to move freight efficiently throughout Louisiana and the Gulf Coast. Furthermore, this conference always provides a host of useable freight facts and interesting discussions. I always come away with at least one new management tool for decision making and a pocket full of best practices to emulate.”

The conference will feature freight and transportation executives and professionals representing state and local governments, freight movement companies, freight generating industries, and other organizations that work with freight mobility issues. The sessions will address topics of freight planning and operations that are important to both private firms and public sector agencies.

The agenda is available on the conference website.
